The Department of the Economics was established in 1965. It has a rich history and legacy of producing exceptional economists and researcher who have contributed significantly to the field of economics. Over the years, the department has grown in reputation and has become one of the leading centre for economic studies in the region.
The journey of the department began with the appointment of the first teacher Dr. Amarpal Singh in 1965. He was a visionary academician who laid the foundation of the department and played a crucial role in shaping it in early years. Dr. Amarpal Singh’s dedication to teaching set a high standard for the future faculty member and student alike.
In 1989, the department welcomed another distinguished academician Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar Singh with his arrival, the department expertise and research capabilities were further enhanced. Dr. Singh brought in the fresh perspective and ideas that enriched the academic environment of the department. He mentored countless students and inspired them to pursue career in economics and make valuable contribution to society.
The year 2020 marked another significant millstone for the department with the addition of Dr. Avinash Kumar Singh Yadav to its faculty. Dr. Yadav’s expertise in various subfields of economics brought diversity and new dimension to the department research and teaching. His presence further elevated the department’s reputation as a center of excellence in economic studies.
At present the department after U.G. Course which covers papers like Microeconomic, Macroeconomic, history of economic thought, economic of development and planning etc. during teaching the emphasis is given on both theoretical and applied economics to equip students with a strong analytical foundation. Along with this the department also offer Ph.D. course under the able supervision of the department teachers.
Beyond academics, the department fasters a vibrant and intellectually stimulating environment by organizing seminars, workshop and conference. This exposure to diverse perspectives helps students to broaden their horizons and nurtures a spirit of inquiry and curiosity.
