The department of sociology was established in 1965. Dr. Shivaji Singh Ji former principal of the college was the first teacher of the department who provided sharp guidance to this department. Dr. Prem Shankar Mishra, Dr. Sarita Singh, Dr. Janhavi Prasad Upadhyay, Dr. Abhay Singh have made significant contributions as faculty members in the department of sociology, due to which the department has grown manifold and is part of an educational institution of national repute. Department of sociology admits students to its programs of studies Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Ph.D. from all over the country. Most of the enrolled students belong to rural and backward areas of East Uttar Pradesh.

Presently the department is working with faculty members Dr. Anand Kumar Singh Assistant Professor, Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh Assistant Professor and Dr. Karunesh Kumar Pandey Assistant Professor under the able guidance of Dr. Sarika Singh Assistant & Head of the department. The department is housed in a splendid, disable friendly building with lecture rooms, well furnished Seminar Hall, a Departmental library with about more than 300 books, and computers with LAN/Wi-Fi facilities. The department organizes lectures, seminars and workshops on various issues and challenges related to social life.

All faculty member, irrespective of their status, equally participates in an academic program and administrative work through a system of consultation and communities. Apart from regular teaching and supervising PhD scholars, all teachers are constantly engaged in research activities, resulting in the publication of a large number of books, monographs, articles and reports in different fields of sociology.

• To impart and create knowledge in the collaboration with national and international institutions.
• To promote scientific temper, self-reliance and employability.
